Back to the Utrecht city guide

Utrecht punches far above its weight as a museum city. The Railway Museum is one of the finest family museums in the Netherlands. The Centraal Museum holds the world’s largest Rietveld collection. The Musical Clocks Museum in a medieval church is unlike anything elsewhere in the country. The DOMunder archaeological experience beneath the Dom Tower square is genuinely extraordinary. All major Utrecht museums are covered by the Museumkaart at €75 per year, which pays for itself after four visits.

The Rietveld Schröder House requires advance booking and sells out quickly. The Dom Tower guided tours are worth booking ahead for weekends. The Spoorwegmuseum is worth booking ahead for school holidays. The Centraal Museum and Nijntje Museum are directly opposite each other and combine naturally for a family day.
